Slipping it

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

In my last firing I was really pleased with a blue slipped pot (images above). So I went ahead and mixed up 5 gallons of it! It's made from glacier porcelain and "Vivid blue" Mason stain and now I am dipping, spraying and brushing it on everything! To achieve a silky smooth surface I have chosen to wet sand my work after bisque firing with super fine diamond pads. The other surface options that work best with naked raku are burnishing and Terra sigillata. Burnished surfaces are amazing but very time consuming. I have had great results with terra sigillata in the past so I will definitely be revisiting it. Really looking forward to seeing how this blue batch turns out!
